About This Experience
The morning safari is the practical choice. You get the same dune bashing, sandboarding and camel riding as the evening tour, but in the coolest part of the day and on dunes that are still clean and ridged from the night — and you are back at your hotel by around midday with the rest of the day free.
WHY MORNING
Two reasons people pick this over the evening safari: temperature and crowds. Desert mornings are considerably cooler, which matters a great deal from May through September, and there are far fewer vehicles on the dunes than in the late-afternoon rush.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Dune bashing
An experienced driver takes a 4x4 across the dunes — climbing, cresting and sliding. Tell your driver if you would prefer it gentler and they will adjust.
Sandboarding and camels
Sandboarding down the faces is included, along with a camel ride and photo stops with the low morning light behind the dunes. Quad biking can be added.
Shared or private
Travel in a shared 4x4 or upgrade to a private vehicle if you would rather set your own pace and skip the multi-hotel pickup run.
GOOD TO KNOW
Pickup is early — usually around 6am. Mornings can be genuinely cool before the sun climbs, so bring a light layer you can shed. Closed shoes are best for sandboarding.
