Dubai Butterfly Garden holds more than 15,000 live butterflies across ten custom-built domes, making it the largest covered butterfly garden anywhere. Because every dome is climate-controlled, it runs year-round — including through the summer months when most outdoor attractions become difficult.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Walking among them
The butterflies fly free around you. Dozens of species drift between flowering plants and feeding stations, and if you stand still they will often land on you — which is exactly what most visitors come hoping for.
Ten themed domes
Each dome is planted differently, so the species and the atmosphere change as you move through. Between them are ponds, bridges and shaded seating.
The butterfly museum
A dedicated exhibition explains the life cycle from egg to chrysalis to adult, with displays of preserved specimens and, often, chrysalises you can watch at close range.
PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
Wear bright colours — butterflies are drawn to them. Move slowly, and use a fast shutter speed if you have manual control. Mornings tend to be the most active period.
GOOD TO KNOW
Allow two to three hours. It is fully covered and cooled, making it one of the more comfortable family options in high summer.
