WHAT TO EXPECT

An early pickup

Collection is before first light in an air-conditioned 4x4, timed so you reach the dunes as the sky begins to change. It is an early alarm, but it buys you the quietest and coolest hours in the desert.

Sunrise on the dunes

You stop on a high crest for the sunrise itself. Photographers rate this slot above every other desert timing — long shadows, low golden light and clean, untouched sand make for the strongest images of the day.

Dune driving and sandboarding

With the sun up, the drive continues across the dunes, with sandboarding and a camel ride included. Because you are ahead of the crowds, there is no queuing for either.

Breakfast in the desert

Tea, coffee and refreshments are served out in the dunes before you head back — usually returning to your hotel by mid-morning, leaving the whole day still ahead of you.
