The Gulf is warm, calm and shallow, which makes Dubai one of the easier places in the world to try scuba diving for the first time. Water temperatures stay comfortable most of the year, and the sheltered dive sites mean beginners are not fighting current or cold while learning.

CHOOSING YOUR DIVE

Beach try dive

The entry point for complete beginners. You are taught the basics in shallow water and then dive with an instructor beside you throughout. No certification and no experience required.

Boat try dive

Also for beginners, but reached by boat — better sites, better visibility and typically more marine life than the shore entries.

Certified divers' boat trip

For anyone already qualified: guided dives at the better offshore sites, including artificial reefs and wrecks that have become established habitats.

WHAT TO EXPECT

All dives run with PADI-certified instructors and full equipment is provided. Common sightings include reef fish, rays, moray eels, barracuda and turtles, with visibility varying by season and site.

GOOD TO KNOW

Do not fly within 18-24 hours of diving — worth planning around if you are diving late in your trip. You will need to complete a medical questionnaire, and certain conditions require a doctor's clearance in advance.
