A jet ski is the fastest way to see Dubai's coastline, and the only one that puts you at sea level with the landmarks towering above you. These are guided tours rather than open rental, with a lead rider setting the route so you spend the session looking at the city instead of working out where you can go.

CHOOSING YOUR DURATION

Thirty minutes covers the headline landmarks and suits first-timers. Sixty minutes lets you range further along the coast at a more relaxed pace. Two hours is for confident riders who want the full run — and it is the one people who have ridden before tend to book.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The route

The classic line runs past the Burj Al Arab on its sail-shaped podium, out along Palm Jumeirah toward Atlantis, and back with the Dubai Marina towers filling the skyline. Seeing these buildings from the water changes their scale entirely.

No experience needed

No licence is required. A safety briefing and life jacket come as standard, and the machines are simple — throttle and steering, with the guide handling navigation.

GOOD TO KNOW

You will get wet, so bring swimwear, a towel and reef-safe sunscreen. A waterproof phone pouch is worth having. Morning sessions usually have the calmest water and the best visibility.
