House of Hype is an attraction designed backwards from the photograph. Rather than exhibits you look at, it is a sequence of more than fifteen immersive rooms you step inside — mirrors, illusions, light installations and oversized sets, each one built so that the person in it becomes the subject.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Room after room
Each space works to a different idea: infinity mirrors, forced-perspective illusions, colour-saturated sets, kinetic light. You move at your own pace, and the variety keeps groups moving rather than queuing.
Built for content
Lighting in every room is set up for photography and video, which is the practical difference between this and a conventional gallery — you do not have to fight shadows or flash restrictions to get a usable shot.
Who it suits
Groups of friends, couples and families with older children get the most from it. It is playful rather than educational, and everyone participates.
GOOD TO KNOW
Allow around two hours, though people with a camera routinely stay longer. It is indoors and air-conditioned. Bright, plain clothing photographs best against the saturated sets, and a phone with a wide lens is genuinely useful.
