Zayed National Museum

Zayed National Museum is the UAE's national museum, dedicated to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and to the history of the land he unified. Its five sculpted steel towers rise above Saadiyat Island in a form drawn from falcon wingtips — and they are functional, drawing hot air upward to cool the galleries below in the same way a traditional wind tower does.

Galleries trace his life, leadership and the founding of the federation, alongside his conservation work — falconry, the protection of the Arabian oryx, and the greening projects that changed the country's landscape.

Deep history

The collection reaches far further back than the nation itself, covering hundreds of thousands of years of human presence in the region — trade routes, archaeological finds and the seafaring cultures that connected the Gulf to the wider world.

The building

The architecture is part of the visit. The towers are engineered for passive cooling, a modern reinterpretation of a very old regional idea, and worth looking at properly from the outside before you go in.

GOOD TO KNOW

Around two hours covers the permanent galleries. Fully indoors and air-conditioned, so it works in any season.
